THE LOST COLONY’S SLEEPING BEAUTY
IS A DELIGHTFUL SPECTACLE!

(Manteo, NC - June 16, 2008) The Lost Colony brings mid-morning enchantment to the Waterside Theatre stage this Thursday morning at the opening of their new musical production of Sleeping Beauty.  The show is a re-telling of the classic tale of a beauty that can only be awaked by her true love’s kiss—but this production features a clever twist.  It is set during the “totally tubular” 1980’s in the Outer Banks’ Rodanthe-Salvo area and features music, dance and a live band. And if you are looking to “cool off” and beat the summer heat, sit in the “splash zone!”  The first four rows of the theatre are reserved for guests who are suited-up to get wet during Sleeping Beauty. Additionally, children and their parents can participate in special pre-show activities which included face-painting, balloon animals, and the Sir Walter Raleigh potato toss game. Don’t miss one of their performances on

No Snoozing Found at The Lost Colony’s Sleeping Beauty
Charming production offers wide-eyed fun!

(Manteo, N.C., June 16, 2008) – There truly is something for everyone to enjoy at The Lost Colony’s newest children’s theatre production of Sleeping Beauty.   Local references intertwined with a 1980’s theme add color and enchantment to the production. True to the classic telling, this sleeping beauty will be awakened by her true love’s kiss Tuesdays and Thursdays at 9:30 a.m. in Waterside Theatre from June 19 through August 14.

The production playfully recounts this classic tale with some clever twists. Set in the Outer Banks’ Rodanthe-Salvo area during the “totally tubular” 1980’s, it includes local color and lively music sung by the 80’s inspired Sonny’s Angels, Beach Street Boys and others accompanied by a live band. Margie Mills plays Princess Heather, the sleeping beauty who can only be awakened the kiss of her true love Prince Fresh—played by Eric Eteuati.

This 1980’s beach-themed production promises to be a splash, too.  If your plans include heading to the beach, get suited-up for Sleeping Beauty too. The first four rows of Waterside Theatre will be a “splash zone” where audience members can be squirted, splashed or sprinkled—a perfect way to cool off on a hot-summer morning.

Why the 1980’s? Well, according to director Brian Rooney it seemed a natural fit, an era with lively pop-music, boy bands, hip-hop and colorful fashions. Rooney remarks, “There are lots of jokes for the parents who like totally survived those radical 80’s!” The production also touches on issues of self-image, confidence and communication.

Rooney is an award-wining actor, who is currently working on his MFA from University of South Carolina. He has directed both children’s show and adult shows. During the 1980’s Rooney, appeared in General Hospital worked as a Universal Studios tour guide and was heard as the voice of KITT—the car from Night Rider at Universal Studios in Hollywood, CA.

Sleeping Beauty will be performed onstage at Waterside Theatre, with the comfortable stadium seats, inside Fort Raleigh National Historic Site at 9:30 a.m. every Tuesday and Thursday beginning June 19 and running through August 14. Tickets are $5 a person. Guests can also pre-arrange to enjoy a simple brunch after the production.  Brunch includes a keepsake photo with the cast. For reservations, tickets and information go to www.thelostcolony.org or call (252) 473-3414.

Come twenty minutes before the show to enjoy special pre-show activities including face painting, games and balloon sculpting.

While attending for the children’s show, consider visiting The Elizabethan Gardens, also at Fort Raleigh. The Gardens are open from 9 am to 7 pm. For information, call (252) 473-3234. Tickets
